Sedro-Woolley Battles Past Gig Harbor to Advance to State 3A Round of 16

It was a hard-fought, defensive showdown Saturday night as the Sedro-Woolley Cubs held off the Gig Harbor Tides for a 14-7 victory in the opening round of the State 3A playoffs.

The Cubs struck first when Jae Thompson powered into the end zone from five yards out to give Sedro-Woolley an early lead. They extended that advantage to 14-0 in the second quarter when quarterback Cliff Tadema connected with Ethan Dejong on a five-yard touchdown pass.

Gig Harbor battled back in the second half, finding the end zone to cut the deficit to 14-7, but the Cubs’ defense proved too tough, coming up with key stops down the stretch to preserve the win.

The victory keeps Sedro-Woolley’s perfect season alive at 10-0 and sends the Cubs into the State 3A Round of 16. Gig Harbor finishes its season at 6-4 after a strong late-season push that included four straight road wins.
