Mount Vernon Pulls Off Dramatic Late Drive to Edge Oak Harbor 29-22

The Mount Vernon Bulldogs and Oak Harbor Wildcats put on a thrilling showdown Thursday night, with Mount Vernon coming out on top 29-22 to improve to 5-1 on the season.

Quarterback Kaiden Anderson led the Bulldogs with 119 passing yards and two touchdowns, while also adding his first rushing score of the year. One of his scoring strikes came on a 20-yard touchdown pass to Jay Davis, tying the game at 7–7 early in the first half. Later in the second quarter, Diego Salaz broke free for a 29-yard touchdown run with less than a minute left in the half, giving Mount Vernon a 14–7 lead at the break.

Oak Harbor battled back in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 points and converting a two-point try to grab a 22–21 lead with 1:51 left on the clock.

But Mount Vernon answered in dramatic fashion. Starting from their 36-yard line with 1:46 remaining, the Bulldogs engineered a clutch drive and capped it off with a 3-yard touchdown run by Diego Salaz, reclaiming the lead and sealing the 29-22 victory.

Defensively, Mount Vernon came up with key stops and a pair of interceptions — one each from Gideon Hope and Nathan Reyes — to keep the Wildcats from extending their fourth-quarter surge.
