Mount Vernon Survives Wet Conditions to Top Stanwood 22-13

In a sloppy, rain-soaked showdown, the Mount Vernon Bulldogs held off the Stanwood Spartans for a 22-13 victory. The wet conditions made ball security a challenge, and the Spartans struggled, committing three turnovers and picking up several costly penalties that stalled key drives.

Mount Vernon struck first when Kaiden Anderson intercepted an Alex Maldonado pass and capped the drive himself on a quarterback keeper for the Bulldogs’ opening touchdown. Anderson later threw a 47-yard strike to Jay Davis, extending the Bulldogs’ lead.

Stanwood tried to rally in the fourth period, with Maldonado finding Avery Patterson-Roe on a 19-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to nine points. However, Mount Vernon’s defense held firm the rest of the way, to give the Bulldogs the win.

The Bulldogs improve to 5-1 overall, while the Spartans fall to 4-2 in Wesco 3A North play.
