Stanwood Spartans Edge Snohomish 13-7 in Nail-Biter
The Stanwood Spartans escaped with a 13-7 win over the Snohomish Panthers in a game that went down to the final minute.
The Spartans struck first in spectacular fashion. On third-and-long from midfield, quarterback Alex Maldonado dropped back to pass but instead tucked the ball and raced 50 yards down the sideline for a touchdown, giving Stanwood an early lead.
The game remained tied late into the fourth quarter. With just 1:30 left, Maldonado scrambled from the Snohomish 32-yard line to the 8, putting the Spartans in perfect position for the winning score. Moments later, Eben Bland Jr. powered through the line for an 8-yard touchdown run, giving Stanwood the go-ahead points with only a minute remaining.
Stanwood’s defense was relentless all night, recording two goal-line stands and limiting Snohomish to just 196 yards of total offense, holding strong to secure the thrilling victory.
