Stanwood Spartans Softball Team Wins District 1 3A Softball Tournament 2-1 over Sedro-Woolley
It was a great softball game.. every thing you’d expect from the two top ranked teams in the State.. Both Teams had great pitching and spectacular defense. It was a pitching duel between Sedro Woolley’s Kasandra Gonzalez who stuck out 18 batters and went all 10 innings for the Cubs . Addi Anderson was in the circle for the Stanwood Spartans, She pitched the whole distance , striking out eight hitters while allowing five hits and one earned run. Number one ranked Sedro-Woolley Cubs score 1st… then the number 2 ranked Stanwood Spartans tie it up with a RBI Single in the 4th inning from Addi Anderson. The Score would remain tied at 1 a piece until the 10th inning when Taylor Almanza hits into an RBI Fielders choice to knock in the go ahead run to make it a 2-1 score. Spartans defense shined in the bottom of the 10th inning. Sedro Woolley had the tying run on Third, when they attempted a squeeze play. It was fielded by Jemma Lopez who threw it to 1st for the force out at 1st, Reagan Ryan quickly threw it to catcher Jordan Rancourt who tagged out the runner coming home for the 5-3-2 double play. Olivia Dahl would then catch the final out to give the Spartans the District 1 Championship.
