The Bulldogs took control of their league opener and never let go, riding a balanced attack and a strong finish to move to 2-0 on the season.
Quarterback Kaiden Anderson sparked the offense with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jay Davis, while running back Hunter West stole the show on the ground, powering his way to three touchdowns — including two in the second half that sealed the win.
Mount Vernon’s defense also came up with key stops, limiting Marysville-Getchell after the Chargers closed the gap to 22-19 in the third quarter. From there, the Bulldogs tightened up and turned momentum back in their favor.
Marysville-Getchell (0-2, 0-1 league) was led by Connor Conant, who scored on runs of 1 and 12 yards, and quarterback Brody Olson, who found Michael Bertapelle for an 18-yard touchdown. But Mount Vernon’s fast start and strong finish proved too much to overcome.

SEDRO-WOOLLEY — The Cubs made a statement in their league opener, taking down 10th-ranked Stanwood behind a dominant night from quarterback Cliff Tadema and a relentless defensive effort.
Tadema completed 17 of 24 passes for 213 yards and five touchdowns, spreading the ball around to multiple receivers and keeping the Spartan defense on its heels all game.
The Sedro-Woolley defense also set the tone early, forcing two key turnovers that the Cubs quickly turned into touchdowns. That momentum swing helped Sedro-Woolley control field position throughout the night, giving Tadema and the offense short fields to work with.
Stanwood (1-1 overall, 0-1 league) struggled to find rhythm against the Cubs’ pressure and couldn’t fully recover from the early deficit.
Lowell’s Late TD Lifts Burlington-Edison Over Squalicum in Season Opener
Burlington-Edison opened its season with a dramatic Northwest 2A Conference victory Friday night, edging Squalicum 20–16 on the road.
With just 1:05 left to play, Jacob Lowell broke free for a 16-yard touchdown run to put the Tigers ahead for good. Lowell finished with 90 yards on 14 carries and scored both of Burlington-Edison’s rushing touchdowns.
Quarterback Owen Stewart powered the offense with 125 rushing yards on 18 carries and went 8-for-17 passing for 114 yards, highlighted by an 18-yard scoring strike to Jake VanPelt.
Lowell also starred on defense, tallying 12 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble to help seal the win.
Stanwood Opens Season Strong with 27-14 Win over Spanaway Lake
he Stanwood Spartans kicked off their 2024 season in impressive fashion, knocking off Spanaway Lake 27-14 in their opener Friday night.
Stanwood wasted little time getting on the board. Quarterback Alex Maldonado hit Preston Turner in stride for a 65-yard touchdown strike, giving the Spartans the early momentum. Turner wasn’t done there. , he pounced on a Spanaway Lake fumble and raced it back for another score, swinging the game firmly in Stanwood’s favor.
The Sentinels tried to claw their way back, but Stanwood’s defense held strong, forcing turnovers and limiting big plays. Maldonado kept the offense balanced, while the Spartans’ ground game chewed up valuable clock in the second half.
By the final whistle, Stanwood had secured a 27-14 win and set the tone for what they hope will be a strong season. Turner’s two-touchdown performance — one through the air and one on defense — earned him recognition as our North Sound Physical Therapy Player of the Game.
Mount Vernon Bulldogs win the District 1 3A baseball Title with a come from behind 7-4 win over Stanwood.
Mount Vernon bulldogs fell behind 3-0 early in the District 1 Championship game vs Stanwood Spartans. Then in the Third inning, Stanwood walked the 1st two batters, and then intentionally walked Xavier Neyens to load the bases. Dylan Jacobs came to the plate bases loaded with two outs, Dylan hit A double to center field that brought in two runs, and a botched throw to third base that rolled into the outfield allowed Neyens to go home and tie it 3-3. Stanwood allowed consecutive RBI hits to the next two batters, Brady Collins and Bode Webb, to put the Bulldogs up 5-3. The Bulldogs would add on two more runs to get the win 7-4 over the Spartans. Both Teams will advance to the State Tournament next week.
Stanwood Spartans Softball Team Wins District 1 3A Softball Tournament 2-1 over Sedro-Woolley
It was a great softball game.. every thing you’d expect from the two top ranked teams in the State.. Both Teams had great pitching and spectacular defense. It was a pitching duel between Sedro Woolley’s Kasandra Gonzalez who stuck out 18 batters and went all 10 innings for the Cubs . Addi Anderson was in the circle for the Stanwood Spartans, She pitched the whole distance , striking out eight hitters while allowing five hits and one earned run. Number one ranked Sedro-Woolley Cubs score 1st… then the number 2 ranked Stanwood Spartans tie it up with a RBI Single in the 4th inning from Addi Anderson. The Score would remain tied at 1 a piece until the 10th inning when Taylor Almanza hits into an RBI Fielders choice to knock in the go ahead run to make it a 2-1 score. Spartans defense shined in the bottom of the 10th inning. Sedro Woolley had the tying run on Third, when they attempted a squeeze play. It was fielded by Jemma Lopez who threw it to 1st for the force out at 1st, Reagan Ryan quickly threw it to catcher Jordan Rancourt who tagged out the runner coming home for the 5-3-2 double play. Olivia Dahl would then catch the final out to give the Spartans the District 1 Championship.
Mount Vernon defeats Snohomish 6-3 in the District 1 Semi Finals
The Mount Vernon Bulldogs advance to the District 1 3A Baseball Finals with their 6-3 win over the Snohomish Panthers, in the Semi Finals. The game was tied 2-2 in the third inning when Bode Webb doubled to score two runs to give the Bulldogs the lead. In the sixth inning, Xavier Neyens hit a home run to extend the Bulldog’s lead to 6-2 . With the win the Bulldogs will face the Stanwood Spartans on Saturday in the District 1 finals and they will advance to the State Tournament.
Stanwood Defeats Edmonds Woodway 2-1 to Advance to District 1 Championship
Stanwood’s Gavin Gehrman’s hits a walk off RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Spartan’s a 2-1 win over the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors. It was another good pitching performance from Stanwood’s Tanner Requa, he pitched 6 2/3 innings gave up just 4 hits and had 9k’s.
Stanwood will face No. 1-seed Mount Vernon 4 p.m. Saturday at Funko Field for the district title.
Stanwood Spartan’s Baseball Team Defeats Mountlake Terrace 6-3
Stanwood Spartans opened their Baseball post season play with a big 6-3 win over Mountlake Terrace in the District 1 Quarter finals. The Spartans used their same game plan they have used all year.. Good pitching and defense and timely hitting. TJ McQuery struck out 12 batters over six innings on the mound for Stanwood. Gavin Gehrman went 3-for-4 with two runs, while Connor Clifton and Brayden Wammack each drove in two runs. The Spartans will advance to Semi Finals in a winner to State game against Edmonds-Woodway, 7 p.m. Tuesday at Funko Field.

The Anacortes Seahawks defeated the Squalicum Storm 11-1 in 5 innings.. Good hitting and aggressive baserunning took advantage of several Squalicum Errors.

Good pitching and aggressive base running earn the Burlington Edison Tigers a 4-1 win over the Lakewood Tigers. Tiger Pitcher ,Tyler Walker,held the Lakewood Cougars to just one run.
Stanwood Fastpitch defeats Everett 3-0
Another good outing in the pitching circle for Addi Anderson. She threw a one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts to lead the Spartans. Stanwood also enjoyed timely hitting lead by, Regan Ryan who went 2-3 with a 1st inning Home Run. Jordan Rancourt also went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Stanwood can win the Wesco North outright by avenging its lone league loss to Snohomish on Wednesday.
Stanwood Soccer Drops Their final game to Marysville-Pilchuck 4-2
Stanwood would come from behind to take a 2-1 lead at the half against Marysville-Pilchuck, with goals from Landon Falor and Brander Standish. But it would not be enough to hold back the Tomahawks, as the Tommies score 3 in the second half to get the win.
Stanwood Ends Their Regular Season with a 6-1 Win over Monroe to Earn the Wesco North Title.
Good Pitching and defense and timely hitting earned the Spartans a 6-1 win over the Monroe Bearcats. Tanner Requa went the distance on the mound for Stanwood, limiting the Bearcats to just one run. Brayden Wammack started the scoring for Stanwood with a two RBI double in the 2nd inning. With the win the Spartans finish with a 9-1 record in the Wesco North, and earned the Wesco North Championship.
Stanwood Spartans Softball Team’s 10th inning magic produces 4 runs to get a 4-1 win over Monroe.
Pitching and defense was the story for both teams when Stanwood played Monroe. The Game was scoreless until the top of the 10th inning, when Anderson hit an RBI-double to center field, scoring the extra-innings automatic runner Jemma Lopez to finally break things open 1-0. Later in the inning Megan Stulc hits a two RBI home run to give Stanwood a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 10th Monroe would score their ghost runner. and get two runner on base. Then Addi Anderson shut them down Anderson punched out the next two batters to notch her 10th and 11th strikeouts, stranding two runners.
With the Win, the Spartans are at the top of the Wesco North and will go to the Quarter finals in the District 1 3A Softball Tournament, and avoid the play-in game.
