Mount Vernon Survives Wet Conditions to Top Stanwood 22-13
In a sloppy, rain-soaked showdown, the Mount Vernon Bulldogs held off the Stanwood Spartans for a 22-13 victory. The wet conditions made ball security a challenge, and the Spartans struggled, committing three turnovers and picking up several costly penalties that stalled key drives.
Mount Vernon struck first when Kaiden Anderson intercepted an Alex Maldonado pass and capped the drive himself on a quarterback keeper for the Bulldogs’ opening touchdown. Anderson later threw a 47-yard strike to Jay Davis, extending the Bulldogs’ lead.
Stanwood tried to rally in the fourth period, with Maldonado finding Avery Patterson-Roe on a 19-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to nine points. However, Mount Vernon’s defense held firm the rest of the way, to give the Bulldogs the win.
The Bulldogs improve to 5-1 overall, while the Spartans fall to 4-2 in Wesco 3A North play.
Stanwood Rallies Past Everett for 2-1 Victory
The Stanwood Spartans came from behind to defeat the Everett Seagulls 2-1 in a key Wesco North matchup. The win improves Stanwood to 6-3 in league play, solidly placing them in third and in strong position for the upcoming district tournament.
Everett struck first, but Stanwood answered late in the first half when Kendall Rhodes scored the tying goal off a sharp cross from Georgia Lenz. The Spartans completed the comeback in the second half as Kyler Burke delivered a pinpoint cross from deep in the corner to Gracelynn Ryan, who finished for the go-ahead goal.
Stanwood’s defense held firm the rest of the way, securing an important late-season win.

Spartans Roll Over Snohomish, Stay Unbeaten in League
The Spartans rallied with a mix of power and precision to defeat Snohomish 25-19, 25-15, 21-25, 25-22 and remain unbeaten in Wesco 3A/2A North play at 7-0 (9-1 overall).
Stanwood’s balanced attack was on full display, led by Whitney Longspaugh’s 18 kills and Cambrielle Brown’s 11, including a diving pancake save that kept a rally alive and led to one of Longspaugh’s kills. Setter Addison Bowie orchestrated the offense with 40 assists, including a perfect set to Marlee Cumbee for a key second-set kill. Harper Neyens added 10 kills, and five Spartans finished with nine or more digs, paced by Kylee Brown’s 14.
Despite a strong showing from Snohomish’s Heidi Chambers, who recorded 15 kills and 14 digs, the Panthers couldn’t match Stanwood’s timely plays and depth. With the win, the Spartans continue to roll through league play, showing why they’re one of the top teams in the Wesco 3A/2A North.
Sedro Woolley Holds Off Mount Vernon
Sedro Woolley narrowly held off Mount Vernon, 32-27, preserving their undefeated record. The game came down to the final moments, as Mount Vernon mounted a late drive and threatened to score. However, a crucial pass toward the end zone was knocked away by Sedro Woolley’s defense, sealing the hard-fought victory.

Spartans Dominate Chargers in 42-0 Shutout Victory

MARYSVILLE — The Stanwood Spartans delivered a dominant all-around performance Friday night, shutting out Marysville Getchell 42-0 in Wesco 3A North action.
Quarterback Alex Maldonado led the way, rushing for two touchdowns and throwing an 18-yard scoring pass to Preston Turner. Maldonado also connected on a 55-yard strike to Brenner Perry, setting up another Stanwood score.
Eben Bland Jr. powered in for Stanwood’s second touchdown of the night, extending the lead to 13-0 in the first half. From there, the Spartans never looked back, piling up points behind a balanced attack and a relentless defense.
Stanwood’s defense was impenetrable, forcing multiple punts and keeping the Chargers’ offense bottled up all game. It was the Spartans’ second shutout of the season, underscoring their physical play and disciplined execution on both sides of the ball.
With the win, Stanwood improves to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in league, staying firmly in the hunt near the top of the Wesco 3A North standings.
Stanwood Edges Monroe in Five-Set Thriller
STANWOOD — The Spartans (8-1 overall, 6-0 league) outlasted the Bearcats (9-1, 5-1) in a five-set thriller — 25-14, 20-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-12 — to remain atop the league standings.
Whitney Longspaugh powered the offense with 28 kills, while Addison Bowie contributed 43 assists and eight digs. Harper Neyens added 10 kills and 14 digs, joining Longspaugh as one of two Spartans with double-digit totals in both categories.
For Monroe, Shannara Peebles had 23 kills and 13 digs, while Maddie Walker led all players with 24 digs. Avery Ray added 21 assists in the loss.
Mount Vernon Pulls Off Dramatic Late Drive to Edge Oak Harbor 29-22
The Mount Vernon Bulldogs and Oak Harbor Wildcats put on a thrilling showdown Thursday night, with Mount Vernon coming out on top 29-22 to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Quarterback Kaiden Anderson led the Bulldogs with 119 passing yards and two touchdowns, while also adding his first rushing score of the year. One of his scoring strikes came on a 20-yard touchdown pass to Jay Davis, tying the game at 7–7 early in the first half. Later in the second quarter, Diego Salaz broke free for a 29-yard touchdown run with less than a minute left in the half, giving Mount Vernon a 14–7 lead at the break.
Oak Harbor battled back in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 points and converting a two-point try to grab a 22–21 lead with 1:51 left on the clock.
But Mount Vernon answered in dramatic fashion. Starting from their 36-yard line with 1:46 remaining, the Bulldogs engineered a clutch drive and capped it off with a 3-yard touchdown run by Diego Salaz, reclaiming the lead and sealing the 29-22 victory.
Defensively, Mount Vernon came up with key stops and a pair of interceptions — one each from Gideon Hope and Nathan Reyes — to keep the Wildcats from extending their fourth-quarter surge.
Stanwood Rallies in Five-Set Thriller to Edge Everett
In a clash between two of the top teams in the Wesco North, the Stanwood Spartans (6-1 overall, 4-0 league) staged a thrilling comeback to defeat the Everett Seagulls (6-2, 2-2) in five sets, 20-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 15-11.
After dropping the first and third sets, Stanwood refused to back down. The fourth set became a tense back-and-forth battle. Harper Neyens’ kill off an Addison Bowie set cut Everett’s lead to 7-5, sparking the Spartans’ rally. Lyla Henken added an ace, and Whitney Longspaugh delivered a jaw-dropping winner after a long volley to give Stanwood the go-ahead point at 18-17. Stanwood eventually took the set 25-20, forcing a decisive fifth.
Longspaugh finished with 24 kills and 10 digs, while Bowie racked up 38 assists, orchestrating the Spartan offense with precision. Cambrielle Brown led the defense with 13 digs, and Neyens contributed 12 kills in the comeback.
Everett’s stars shone bright in the narrow loss. Ava Gonzalez led the way with a game-high 34 kills and 26 digs, and Ava Urbanozo kept the Seagulls’ attack humming with 43 assists and 16 digs.
In the end, Stanwood’s resilience and clutch plays propelled them past a fierce Everett squad, keeping the Spartans unbeaten in league play.
Burlington-Edison Blanks Lakewood
BURLINGTON — The Burlington-Edison Tigers celebrated Homecoming in dominant fashion Friday night, shutting out Lakewood 55-0 in front of an energized hometown crowd. The Tigers controlled every phase of the game, with the defense setting the tone early and never letting up. One of the night’s biggest highlights came from defensive lineman Dario Sepulveda, who scooped up a fumble and rumbled 70 yards for a touchdown, bringing the crowd to its feet. The decisive win keeps Burlington-Edison’s momentum rolling as they head deeper into league play.
Spartans Cruise Past Everett in 133-33 Victory
The Stanwood Spartans cruised to a dominant 133-33 win over Everett at the Stanwood-Camano YMCA. The team showed strength across the board, led by standout performances in both individual and relay events.
The Spartans opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, followed by strong individual swims from Alora de Vera in the 200- and 100-yard freestyle, Ryane Wright in the 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle, and Alex Marquis in the 50-yard freestyle. The 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay teams also took top honors, rounding out a comprehensive team victory.
With contributions from Sarah Veazey, Anna Paul, Olivia Otto, Sophie Plano, and the rest of the squad, Stanwood’s depth and versatility were on full display, giving the Spartans a convincing win over Everett.
Stanwood Takes Monroe to Second Overtime Before Late Goal Decides Match
Monroe got on the board first with a goal from SeRi Park, but Stanwood quickly responded when Kendall Rhodes scored a direct kick to even the match. Late in the second half, Leisse Harris put the Spartans ahead 2-1, only for Monroe to answer shortly after and tie it once again. The game went into double overtime, and with less than 15 seconds left in the second golden goal period, Elizabeth Cook scored the game-winner to give Monroe the victory
Spartans roll to 3-0 win over Marysville-Pilchuck
Stanwood defeated Marysville-Pilchuck in straight sets, 25-20, 25-16, 25-15, in a Wesco 3A North volleyball matchup Monday night.
The Spartans set the tone early when Cambrielle Brown dropped in a service ace, one of four she recorded on the night to go with 10 kills and three digs. Setter Addison Bowie dished out 26 assists while adding six kills and two aces, and outside hitter Whitney Longspaugh powered the attack with 11 kills and eight digs.
The victory improved Stanwood to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Stanwood Spartans Edge Snohomish 13-7 in Nail-Biter
The Stanwood Spartans escaped with a 13-7 win over the Snohomish Panthers in a game that went down to the final minute.
The Spartans struck first in spectacular fashion. On third-and-long from midfield, quarterback Alex Maldonado dropped back to pass but instead tucked the ball and raced 50 yards down the sideline for a touchdown, giving Stanwood an early lead.
The game remained tied late into the fourth quarter. With just 1:30 left, Maldonado scrambled from the Snohomish 32-yard line to the 8, putting the Spartans in perfect position for the winning score. Moments later, Eben Bland Jr. powered through the line for an 8-yard touchdown run, giving Stanwood the go-ahead points with only a minute remaining.
Stanwood’s defense was relentless all night, recording two goal-line stands and limiting Snohomish to just 196 yards of total offense, holding strong to secure the thrilling victory.
Stanwood Dominates Marysville-Getchell, 4-0
The Stanwood Spartans picked up their second Wesco league win of the season with a decisive 4-0 victory over the Marysville-Getchell Chargers, moving to 2-0 in league play. Stanwood controlled the match from the opening whistle, creating numerous scoring chances and keeping the Chargers on the back foot throughout.
Goals came from Calley White, Olivia Wipf, Georgia Lenz, and Kendall Rhodes, each contributing to the Spartans’ balanced attack. Georgia Lenz’s goal gave Stanwood a 3-0 lead in the first half, effectively putting the game out of reach. The Spartans’ defense held strong as well, not allowing a single goal, showcasing a complete team effort on both ends of the field.
With this win, Stanwood continues to build momentum in Wesco play, showing they are a team to watch this season.
Stanwood cruises past Chargers for first Wesco win
The Spartans (1-0, 3-1) wasted no time securing their first league win of the season, sweeping the Chargers (0-1, 1-4) at home.
Whitney Longspaugh powered the offense with a team-high nine kills while also contributing eight digs on the defensive end. Harper Neyens matched Longspaugh with eight digs of her own, giving Stanwood a steady back-row presence.
The Spartans’ attack ran smoothly through setters Addison Bowie and Addy Schuh, who combined for 29 assists — Bowie with 18 and Schuh with 11. Lyla Henken led the team with nine digs, helping Stanwood control the floor and keep the Chargers out of rhythm.
Stanwood 45, Oak Harbor 14
Stanwood struck first when Silas Turpin broke free for a 55-yard touchdown run to give the Spartans an early lead. The momentum carried into halftime, capped by a stunning play in the final seconds of the first half when Preston Turner intercepted an Oak Harbor pass in the end zone and returned it 103 yards for a back-breaking touchdown. From there, Stanwood controlled the game on both sides of the ball and cruised to a convincing 45–14 victory over the Wildcats.
Archbishop Murphy rolled past Burlington-Edison overpowering the Tigers 55-2 on Saturday.
The Wildcats’ offense clicked from the opening kickoff, putting points on the board early and often. Andrew Lucas broke free for a 65-yard touchdown run to spark the scoring, and the Murphy defense set the tone by limiting Burlington-Edison’s chances all night. By halftime, the Wildcats had built a commanding lead and never looked back.
The win made it back-to-back victories for Archbishop Murphy (2-0), who look poised to contend in league play. Burlington-Edison, now 1-1, will look to bounce back next week after being held without an offensive touchdown in the loss.
Mount Vernon 36, Marysville-Getchell 19
The Bulldogs took control of their league opener and never let go, riding a balanced attack and a strong finish to move to 2-0 on the season.

Marysville-Getchell (0-2, 0-1 league) was led by Connor Conant, who scored on runs of 1 and 12 yards, and quarterback Brody Olson, who found Michael Bertapelle for an 18-yard touchdown. But Mount Vernon’s fast start and strong finish proved too much to overcome.
Sedro-Woolley Tops Stanwood 34-20

SEDRO-WOOLLEY — The Cubs made a statement in their league opener, taking down 10th-ranked Stanwood behind a dominant night from quarterback Cliff Tadema and a relentless defensive effort.
Tadema completed 17 of 24 passes for 213 yards and five touchdowns, spreading the ball around to multiple receivers and keeping the Spartan defense on its heels all game.
The Sedro-Woolley defense also set the tone early, forcing two key turnovers that the Cubs quickly turned into touchdowns. That momentum swing helped Sedro-Woolley control field position throughout the night, giving Tadema and the offense short fields to work with.
Stanwood (1-1 overall, 0-1 league) struggled to find rhythm against the Cubs’ pressure and couldn’t fully recover from the early deficit.
